Article Correctness Is Author's Responsibility: Ethical Issues Involved in Grateful Patient Fundraising—Reply

In Reply As described in our Viewpoint, there are important ethical concerns related to grateful patient fundraising but a paucity of data regarding the practices associated with this activity. By presenting this situation as problematic, we intended to prompt work in this area. In her letter, Dr Jagsi underscores a point made in an earlier publication emanating from a multistakeholder summit on the ethical issues in grateful patient fundraising, in which she participated. That article offered a comprehensive set of guidelines for addressing the ethical issues in grateful patient fundraising, recognizing that they needed to be evaluated and informed by data. The article stated: “Information about the views of all patients and the general public, including those who lack the capacity to give, regarding these activities is important to evaluate.�
